We started in education technology, building automated assessment tools tested with advanced physics courses at Técnico Lisboa — eventually grading 400+ students per semester with 99% accuracy. Our Background
Upstack was founded in 2022, starting with custom AI tools for education. We partnered with Técnico Lisboa to test our assessment methods with advanced physics courses—subjects where true understanding matters more than memorization.
That experience proved that AI can reliably distinguish genuine competence from surface-level knowledge. In 2024, we brought these methods to HR and recruitment with WorkLab, and productized our education roots as LearnLab for universities and training teams.
